Rohini is the favorite wife of the Moon, representing beauty, fertility, and growth. Natives are often blessedly attractive, charming, and artistic. They love luxury and comfort. They are grounded yet creative, capable of manifesting abundance. However, they can be prone to jealousy and fixation on material pleasures. They possess a magnetic quality that draws others to them effortlessly.

Mythology & Legends
Rohini is often considered the favorite wife of the Moon (Soma), and her story is one of intense passion, jealousy, and the consequences of favoritism. The Moon had 27 wives (the 27 Nakshatras), all daughters of the cosmic progenitor Daksha. However, the Moon was so captivated by the beauty and charm of Rohini—the "Red One"—that he spent all his time with her, neglecting the other 26 wives.
This caused great distress among the other sisters, who complained to their father, Daksha. Daksha warned the Moon to treat all his wives equally, but the Moon, enslaved by his desire for Rohini, ignored the warning. In anger, Daksha cursed the Moon to waste away and die. This is the mythological origin of the waxing and waning of the Moon. The Moon began to perish (wane), and panic ensued in the cosmos because the Moon nourishes all plant life. Finally, Shiva intervened. He could not remove the curse entirely, but he modified it so the Moon would wax and wane eternally.
Rohini is ruled by Brahma, the Creator (Prajapati). This connects the star to the primal urge of creation and procreation. There is a controversial myth where Brahma becomes obsessed with his own daughter (symbolizing his creation) and chases her in the form of a stag, while she runs as a doe (Rohini). This myth highlights the intense, sometimes blinding, power of desire that Rohini represents. It is the desire that creates worlds.
The symbol of Rohini is the Ox Cart or Chariot. This represents civilization, agriculture, and the movement of goods. Rohini is the star that carries the harvest. It is earthy, productive, and focused on growth. Just as a cart carries heavy loads to the market, Rohini natives have the capacity to carry abundance and material wealth.
The "Red One" also signifies the blood of life, passion, and fertility. Rohini is the most fertile space in the zodiac. It is where ideas, children, and plants grow best. The mythology warns, however, that excessive attachment (like the Moon's attachment to Rohini) leads to decay. The lesson for Rohini is to create and enjoy, but not to hoard.

👨🏫In My Practice: Observations
I always smile when I see a Rohini chart because I know I'm dealing with someone who appreciates the finer things. A client of mine, a landscape architect, perfectly embodied this. She didn't just plant gardens; she created lush, seductive paradises. She told me, "I don't just want plants to grow; I want them to thrive and seduce the viewer." That is pure Rohini energy.
However, the shadow side is real. I've counseled many Rohini natives who suffer from 'Princess Syndrome'—feeling that the world owes them comfort. The Moon's favoritism mythology plays out in their lives; they expect to be the favorite. When they aren't, they can become deeply resentful. I teach them that their charm is a tool to uplift others, not just to attract attention to themselves. When they use their magnetism for a higher cause, they become unstoppable manifestors.
